Gulf Coast AMPS Chapter’s 3rd Show
The Armorgators held their third general-public contest on April 26, 2025 in Milton, Florida in conjunction with the Panhandle Miniature Figure Society of Florida.
The event was deemed a success by participants, who especially liked the venue and the many bargains to be had by the vendors. Several new faces were seen among the participants, and two AMPS chapters provided valuable material support in the form of judges: AMPS North Florida, the “Armordillos”, and AMPS Atlanta.
All AMPS categories were available for entry into the contest, which had as its special theme, “At the Zoo.” There were 58 contest entries in all from 17 participants, with 1 model in the “display only” category. A lot of quality builds were on display, with eight entries receiving a perfect score of 30 / 30.5. Rounding out the top ten were two entries with 29.5 scores.
The top three awards were as follows:
- The Best of Show award went to Bruce McRae for his diorama “Nazis Quit”.
- The Best Theme award went to Sean MeDermott, whose 1/16 “King Tiger” ruled the zoo.
- The People’s Choice award went to Bruce McRae for his “Chain Dogs” (Kettenhunde) vignette.
Based on its success, the Armorgators are already thinking about next year’s show and its theme.
